Base64 Encode Decode is a free online tool that converts plain text into Base64 format, or decodes a Base64 string back into readable text. Choose Encode or Decode from the Mode dropdown, paste your input, and get the converted result in one click.
It's handy when you're testing an API that expects a Base64-encoded token or payload, decoding a data URI you found in a stylesheet or HTML file to see what image or file it actually contains, or reading a config value or JWT segment that documentation printed in encoded form. Developers reach for it constantly when debugging authentication headers or embedded data without wanting to open a code editor for a single conversion.
Everything runs inside your browser, so nothing you paste is sent to a server or stored anywhere. That matters if the value you're decoding is an API key, a token, or configuration data you would rather not upload to a site you do not control. Base64 is an encoding, not encryption -- anyone can decode it, so it doesn't make data secret on its own.
Drop plain text (to encode) or a Base64 string (to decode) into the Input box.
Select the mode from the dropdown depending on which direction you need.
The converted result appears in the Result box below.
Use Copy for the clipboard or Download to save it as a .txt file. Clear resets both boxes.

Absolutely. All tools run entirely in your browser (client-side). Your data never leaves your device and is not sent to our servers.
Yes, once the page is loaded, the tool will continue to work even if you lose internet connection since it runs in your browser.
There is no strict character limit, but very large amounts of text (100,000+ characters) may slow down your browser.

No. Base64 is just a way of representing binary or text data using a limited set of characters -- it isn't scrambled with a key, and anyone can decode it back to the original with a standard decoder, including this one. Never rely on Base64 alone to keep something secret.
You'll see "Invalid Base64 input." in the result box instead of decoded text. Base64 only uses letters, numbers, plus, slash, and equals-sign padding, so text containing spaces, punctuation, or other symbols will usually fail to decode -- double-check you copied the full string, including any trailing = characters.
Yes. Encoding and decoding both go through a UTF-8 safe conversion step, so accented letters, symbols, and emoji round-trip correctly instead of breaking the way a plain, naive Base64 implementation sometimes does with non-English text or characters outside the basic Latin alphabet.
Not directly -- the Input box only accepts text you type or paste, not a file upload, since nothing on this page ever leaves your browser to be processed elsewhere. Use the Image to Base64 tool if you need to convert an actual image file.
No -- changing Encode to Decode (or back) only changes what happens the next time you click Encode or Decode. Switch the mode first, then click the button again to get a fresh result for the new direction; the result box doesn't update automatically on its own.
Base64 is used to safely embed binary data -- like images, files, or tokens -- inside text-based formats such as JSON, HTML, or URLs, so you'll often encounter it in API responses, data URIs, or authentication headers where the original text isn't shown directly. Decoding it lets you see what's actually inside.
