Text Cleaner is a free online tool that strips messy formatting out of pasted text in one pass. Tick the cleanup steps you need -- extra spaces, HTML tags, and stray symbols -- and it rewrites your text instantly, ready to paste anywhere else.
It earns its keep whenever text arrives in bad shape: a paragraph copied from a PDF with a stray line break after every word, a list pasted from Excel with doubled tabs, or a scraped web page still wearing its HTML tags. Running one option fixes one problem; running several together -- trim, collapse spaces, strip tags -- turns a genuinely unusable paste into something you can drop straight into an email, a CMS, or a spreadsheet.
Every cleanup step runs inside your browser, so the text you paste -- a contract draft, an unpublished article, a customer list -- never reaches this site's server or anyone else's. You can also work through it a step at a time: run one pass, check the result, then run another, without ever losing the ability to start over from your original paste.
Drop your content into the Input box -- copied from a PDF, Word, a webpage, or anywhere else. Live character, word, and line counts appear below it.
Click Clean Pasted Text, Plain Text Only, or Tidy a List for a ready-made combination, or tick individual boxes across the four option groups above the Input box.
Every checked option runs in one pass. The Result box fills in below, and the line above it reports how many characters were removed.
Copy sends the result to your clipboard; Download saves it as a .txt file. If it needs another pass, tick more options and click Clean Text again -- Clear empties the Input and Result boxes when you are done.

Whatever you tick. Sixteen checkboxes cover whitespace, blank and duplicate lines, HTML tags, URLs, emails, numbers, punctuation, symbols, emojis, accents, curly quotes, and invisible characters, plus a case-conversion dropdown. Nothing runs unless its box is checked, so a fresh paste with everything unticked comes back unchanged except for Trim Each Line and Collapse Extra Spaces, which are on by default.
Yes -- that is the point. Tick as many boxes as you need and click Clean Text once; every checked option runs together in a fixed order (tags and paste artifacts first, then content removal, then spacing and line changes, then case last), so combining ten options gives the same result as running each one individually in sequence.
Clean Pasted Text turns on trimming, space collapsing, curly-quote fixing, and invisible-character removal -- the combination that undoes most Word or Google Docs paste damage. Plain Text Only adds HTML, URL, email, symbol, and emoji removal for stripping formatted content down to bare words. Tidy a List trims lines and removes blank and duplicate ones.
In most cases, yes. Word and Google Docs commonly leave behind curly quotes, non-breaking spaces, and invisible zero-width characters that look fine but can break search-and-replace or code elsewhere. Turning on Fix Curly Quotes and Remove Hidden/Invisible Characters -- or clicking the Clean Pasted Text preset -- clears both without touching your actual wording.
Remove Punctuation strips marks like periods, commas, quotes, and dashes but leaves symbols such as $, %, and & in place. Remove Special Characters is broader: it deletes anything that is not a letter, a digit, or whitespace, which includes all punctuation plus those symbols. Tick Special Characters alone if you want the more aggressive clean.
No. Both keep the first occurrence exactly where it was and delete the repeats that come after it, so the surviving lines or words stay in their original order. Remove Duplicate Lines compares whole lines; Repeated Words only merges the same word repeated back-to-back, like 'the the', not repeats found elsewhere in the text.
No. HTML Tags only deletes angle-bracket markup with a text replacement -- it never parses or executes anything, and the result only ever lands in a read-only text box, not on a live web page. Pasting a script tag removes the tags but leaves the code between them as plain text, since only the tags themselves are stripped.
Yes, for any language that marks accents as separate combining characters under Unicode, which covers French, Spanish, German, Vietnamese, and most Latin-alphabet languages -- an accented e becomes a plain e, an accented n becomes a plain n, and so on. It does not affect languages with entirely different scripts, like Cyrillic, Arabic, or Chinese, since those have no accent marks to strip.
Non-breaking spaces (common after copying from a webpage) and zero-width characters (sometimes left by Word or used to disguise duplicate text) look like nothing on screen but count as real characters. They can silently break find-and-replace, character limits, or code elsewhere. Remove Hidden/Invisible Characters strips both without affecting anything you can actually see.
No hard limit -- it runs in your browser, so it depends on your device's memory rather than any cap this site sets. Simple options like trimming or case changes stay fast even on very long documents; turning on several options at once, especially duplicate-line or duplicate-word removal, takes a little longer on extremely large pastes.
