About This Tool

Image Color Picker is a free online tool that reads the exact color of any pixel you click in an image. Load a picture, click a spot, and the HEX, RGB and HSL values for that pixel appear at once, each with its own copy button.

It answers the question a screenshot raises: what color is that, exactly. Match a button to the blue in a logo you were sent as a PNG, pull a palette out of a photograph for a mood board, find the background shade of a competitor's header, or check that a mockup really uses the brand color. Every pick is added to a Recently Picked row, so you can build up a small palette and copy any of them back later.

The image never leaves your browser. It is drawn onto a canvas on your own device and the pixel is read from there, so nothing is uploaded to this site. That lets you sample colors from an unreleased design, a confidential screenshot or a client's artwork without handing the file to a server, and it keeps working offline once the page has loaded.

Click any pixel to read its color instantly, with a crosshair cursor over the image
Gives HEX, RGB and HSL for the same pixel at the same time
One-click copy buttons for each of the three color formats
Keeps your last twelve picks in a Recently Picked row -- click a swatch to copy it
Reports the pixel coordinates, and flags a pixel that is partly transparent
Reads the image in your browser -- the file is never uploaded

How to Use Image Color Picker

1

Choose your image

Click Choose Image and pick a PNG, JPEG, WebP, GIF or BMP file. It appears below at full resolution, with a crosshair cursor over it.

2

Click the color you want

Click any point in the image. The swatch under Picked Colour changes to that shade, and the HEX, RGB and HSL boxes fill in with its exact values.

3

Copy the code you need

Click Copy HEX, Copy RGB or Copy HSL to put that value on your clipboard, ready to paste into CSS, a design tool or a style guide.

4

Build up a palette

Keep clicking to collect shades. Each new color joins the Recently Picked row, and clicking a swatch there copies it again. Clear removes the image and empties the history.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is this tool completely free?

Yes! All our tools are 100% free to use with no hidden costs, no registration required, and no credit card needed.

Is my data safe and private?

Absolutely. All tools run entirely in your browser (client-side). Your data never leaves your device and is not sent to our servers.

Can I use this tool offline?

Yes, once the page is loaded, the tool will continue to work even if you lose internet connection since it runs in your browser.

Can I use this for commercial projects?

Yes! All our tools are free for both personal and commercial use.

How do I get the HEX code of a color in an image?

Load the image, then click the pixel you are interested in. The HEX box fills in immediately with a value such as #2563eb, and Copy HEX puts it on your clipboard. RGB and HSL for that same pixel are shown right beside it.

Can I pick colors from a screenshot?

Yes, and it is the most common use. Save the screenshot as a PNG or JPEG, choose it here, and click the part you want to match. Because the file stays on your device, screenshots of private dashboards or unreleased work are safe to sample.

Why is the color slightly different from what I expected?

Photographs and compressed screenshots rarely hold one flat shade, because JPEG compression and anti-aliasing shift neighboring pixels. Click a few points in the same area and compare. Picking from the middle of a large block gives a truer reading than an edge or a gradient.

Does it work on transparent images?

Yes. Transparent and semi-transparent pixels are read as normal, and the tool tells you when the pixel you clicked is not fully opaque, giving its alpha as a percentage. The HEX, RGB and HSL values describe the color itself, without the transparency.

How many colors can I collect at once?

The Recently Picked row holds your last twelve distinct picks, newest first, and duplicates are ignored. Click any swatch to copy its HEX code again. The history clears when you click Clear or reload the page, and nothing is saved between visits.

Which image formats can I open?

PNG, JPEG, WebP, GIF and BMP. The image is drawn at its real pixel size, so a large photo can be sampled precisely even though it is scaled down to fit the page. HEIC files from iPhones are not readable by most browsers.
